If you are looking for a unique holiday where your teenagers are occupied, look no further!
We can offer these in the Garfangana and Lunigiana Regions of Tuscany. These are the two northernmost regions and they are unspoilt by tourism. They are very rugged and mountainous, not the green rolling hills and cypress trees. These regions are where the Tuscan people go. Prices are therefore not inflated for tourists, for example, two coffees and a Danish pastry €3.00.
We can offer a number of choices for the accommodation, a hotel, various agritourismo (working farms) and an Albergo Diffuso (This is what was once a deserted village where the accommodation has been turned into self-catering accommodation, but there is a nearby restaurant.
For example, we have put together an itinerary demonstrating the sorts of things on offer. In this example we have put together a 7 night holiday, starting 24th July 2020, for a family-focused activity holiday in Tuscany - ideal for parents with active teens. My favoured choice is staying in Pontremoli at the ca Del Moro, this is a small privately owned hotel with just 26 bedrooms, it sits in a number of acres of its own land, where it has a good sized swimming pool, a 4 hole golf course and a spa. It’s about 25 minutes walk into the medieval town of Pontremoli, which is on the Via Francigena, the old pilgrims road from Canterbury to Rome. Pontremoli has a great deal of historical interest including a castle for exploration. Food here is a unique blend of Tuscany, Emilia Romagna and Liguria as it sits on the boarders of these three regions. In September and October it is known for chestnuts and porcini mushrooms. They even use the chestnuts for their pasta here.
We have a very good relationship with the local English speaking guides in Pontremoli. They specialize in activities. Perfect for families with teenage children. The guides will come to the hotel every day and take the children for their activities. There is a good choice, but the activities need to be booked in advance, however there is usually an opportunity to change some of these whilst on holiday. The choices are trekking, river trekking (wet suits and helmets will be provided, but suitable footwear is required) canoeing, horse riding and cycling with E-bikes. The parents can join the children any time they wish or they can simply relax by the pool, in the spa or enjoy a day of sightseeing. The Cinque terre is not very far and can be incorporated into a day cycling or trekking.
Pontremoli has a railway station, there are direct services to Parma and to la Spezia for the boat to the Cinque Terre. Lucca, Pisa and Florence can all be reached by train.
The hotel can offer double and triple rooms as well as family suites, these re ideal for a family with say 2 teenagers. The suites are duplex, with a living room, with a sofa bed downstairs and a double bed with a double sofa bed upstairs.
Each of these family holidays will be tailored to the family’s requirements and can easily be made into a 2 centre, perhaps the second half could be more cultural or perhaps a week on the beach.
